New Year Resolutions

(I may be a slight bit late with this post since it’s the 9th of January now, but better late than never since I’m only deciding on resolutions now!)

Every year most of us try to make resolutions that we will stick to. Whether we do so or not, that’s another story. But never the less, the intention is there. I myself, have never been good with sticking to them, but this year I will try again. 2016 is a year I am really looking forward to. I’m going into semester 2 of my first year in university, I’m surrounded by friends and family, I have lots of concerts and trips planned already and I’m visiting my very best friend in the whole world in March (she moved to England a few years ago). Overall I have a feeling that this is going to be a good year, but of course it is up to myself to make sure it is. I quite enjoy new years I have to say, in the same way that I enjoy new weeks or new days. Each of these to me is a new beginning, another chance to wake up clear headed and face the world. So here are my new year resolutions:

  • Be healthier, fitter & stronger // Detox my body
  • Continue blogging, improving  & learning more about it
  • Read more books & keep a record of the books I read (at least 2 books every month)
  • Spend more time with friends & family
  • Plan lots of trips & adventures (So far this year I’m going to 4 concerts, 2 shows, London and Prague!! I’m very excited for 2016)
  • Work on my mental health
  • Start saving a small amount of money, every week that I can only spend on what I see fit to in the next new year – 2017

I could probably make more resolutions than this, but I’m gonna stop for now. I might actually do a monthly update on these resolutions to help with keeping them. Let me know if we have any of the same resolutions or if there’s any big ones you’re really focusing on yourself this year. Thank you for reading!

Trying Something New

To my wonderful followers,

Lately I haven’t been feeling the best which is why my posts have been less frequent. I’ve been extremely tired and sluggish, have had back pains and weird itchy hive-type things covering my legs. I thought it was time for a detox, or a”teatox”, something I had honestly never tried before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had however heard that they were really good for giving energy and removing that bloated feeling, as well as getting rid of sugar cravings (that I wanted to see!). As a follower of fellow Irish blogger FacesByGrace on snapchat, I knew the risks associated a lot of those skinny teas out there, mostly those containing Senna leaves and other laxatives as it stops the absorption of the contraceptive pill – a big no no for many of us women. Following Grace’s recommendations I decided to try Miss Fit Skinny Tea, an Irish company that prides itself in the results it delivers but also in the fact that it contains no laxatives, making it possibly the safest option on the market regarding skinny detox teas. The company’s founder and creator Ruth was quite a pleasure to do business with. She was very sweet and helpful when I messaged her on Facebook to talk about her tea and you can tell that she really cares about her customers and the quality of the product they receive.

So anyway I decided I would start with the 14 day package which was 24.99 and also bought the adorable little strawberry tea infuser which was 5. Postage was fast which is always a plus to buying things online. I ordered it on a Sunday and it arrived the Thursday to my delight.

Here’s what I received in an adorable pink envelope with white polka dots ^.^

I’ve really only started drinking the tea today so I can’t give much of an opinion on if I feel different or anything yet but it does have a nice flavour. Kinda reminds me of green tea which I love! Ruth recommends drinking 3-4 cups a day but I have definitely drank at least 5 so far…and may have another one before I finish typing this. I really hope it does make me feel better soon. Onwards and upwards as they say!

All my love,

Lucy x

P.S. There are now over 100 of you following me! How freaking amazing is that. I am honestly so happy and grateful for your presence. Will be holding a small giveaway soon as my thanks<3

The Beauty Blogger Award

the-beauty-blogger-award

A few days ago I was nominated for the Beauty Blogger Award by the lovely Jovita from VoguishlyChic.Thank you for the nomination Jovita, I really appreciate it 🙂 Everyone should definitely check out her blog for lots of fashion, beauty and make up goodness! So here’s how this whole Beauty Blogger Award thing works:

The rules:

  1. Tag the blogger that nominated you.
  2. Answer the questions you were given.
  3. Nominate 10 people whose blog is about beauty or fashion.
  4. Make 10 questions for your nominees to answer.
  5. Inform the bloggers you chose that you nominated them!

VoguishlyChic’s Questions For Me:

1. Do you believe that fashion trends on the runway can be sported by all?

– Really the answer can vary, as some trends will suit all body shape and sizes while others don’t but in general I think that it is not safe to assume that fashion trends on the runway can be sported by all as it is easy to see that a lot of the models sporting these brand new fashion statements look pretty similar so we are not given an indicator for other body types.
2. What is your favourite fashion accessory?

– I have to say my favourite fashion accessory is probably my celtic design triangle necklace which I got as a birthday present from my mom a few years ago. I wear it every day.
3. Which is your favourite makeup brand?

– At the moment my favourite makeup brand has to be Benefit. Even though I am limited in my collection of their products I am loving each of the products I have and think they are well worth the money.
4. If you had to choose only one makeup product to carry in your bag, what would it be?

– Probably a mascara because my eyes look bare without some mascara! I’m currently using:
5. Which is your My Lip But Better lipstick shade?

– I honestly have no idea because I have so many different lipsticks and just use different ones all the time. I’m not a one-shade kinda gal.
6. Any fashion-paux committed?

– Probably leaving the house without ironing my skirt when it badly needs ironing…..
7. High Heels or Flats. Which one do you pick?

– Probably flats. Love my converse too much.
8. Oversized Totes!! Yay or Nay?

– Couldn’t say I own one myself but they’re not all that bad. Probably a nay from me though.

9. If you had to rate yourself on the fashion quotient on a scale of 1-10, where do you see yourself?

– Probably around 6 or 7…I’m not awful but…I’m learning…
10. Any fashion quote that inspired you the most.

“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak”

My Questions:

  1. Why did you start blogging?
  2. Do you have any bloggers that inspire you?
  3. What would you say your signature style is?
  4. Do you go shopping for new clothes often?
  5. What is your favourite clothing store?
  6. What is your favourite piece of jewellery?
  7. What do you think of body piercings and do you have any?
  8. How often do you wear make up?
  9. If you could only have one make up item what would it be?
  10. What do you like to do to relax?

Musical Wonderfulness: Mary Poppins

So last Wednesday (New Year’s Eve..Eve) I was accompanied by my Mom in witnessing the musical wonderfulness which is Disney & Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre – A “supercalifragilistic” production, if I do say so myself (I’m apologise but more referencing is to come!).

We stayed overnight in the Ballsbridge Hotel in Dublin as a treat for my Mom, mainly to get away from our what can be a sometimes chaotic household as I have 4 younger brothers. It was nice to get away even if only for a night, to chill out, to unwind, to relax. The hotel itself was lovely despite it’s somewhat dated exterior which was a bit off-putting at first but all in all my experience was fantastic from start to finish. Checking in was quick and we found our room easily. We got a free bottle of wine along with a 3 course meal and breakfast included in our package, and let me just say, the food was gorgeous! It was like being on a “jolly holiday” with Mary Poppins herself. I could not fault the hotel or staff who were super helpful and friendly in any way at all. I would highly recommend this hotel and my Mom agrees that we will definitely be staying here again when we come back up to see Lord of the Dance in June.

Top L-Bottom R: The Bord Gais Energy Theatre, The wine that was left in our room, The outfit I wore to the musical & a quick snap before the show started.

The show opened up with the extremely talented Matt Lee as my favourite and most loved character from the story – Bert singing the well known “Chim Chim Cher-ee” and it only got better and more magical from there from the entrance of the gorgeous Zizi Strallen as Mary Poppins, to the extreme details put into the set and its design, to Mrs. Corry and her golden gingerbread stars, and to the emphasis created by the song “Anything Can Happen”. It was a truly inspiring and well produced musical which really captures what I think P L Travers herself would’ve wanted to see done with her beloved Mary Poppins and the Banks family. Having not been a huge fan of the movie itself I have fallen in love with the story from witnessing this musical masterpiece. It was mind-blowingly fantastic and “practically perfect” in the sense that I almost shed a tear a few times at just how beautiful the production as a whole was. If you ever get the chance I would definitely go see it. In fact, I would 110% go see it again if I could.

What Made Me Smile Week 4

It’s crazy to think that this is my fourth week of noting all the little everyday things that make me smile. It really does make a difference. It’s almost ironic coming from me, but when you look back you realise that things are a lot better than they seem if you appreciate those little things.

MONDAY: Spent the day relaxing and watching Doctor Who!

TUESDAY: My neighbour came to visit with a plate of chocolate biscuit cake and apple pie. She’s very sweet.

WEDNESDAY: I went to see Mary Poppins in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre with my Mom. It was a truly magical performance which had me smiling from start to finish 🙂

THURSDAY: The hotel I stayed in (The Ballsbridge Hotel) with my Mom had a pancake machine!? I am in love. I must go back.

FRIDAY: Colouring date with James & got to see most of my family as it was my brother’s birthday. I hadn’t seen some of my aunts and uncles in a while so it was nice to catch up.

SATURDAY: Just going to chill for the day. No stress.

Haul Post #2 The Christmas Edition

Hello everyone! I would like to start this post off with the hope that you all have had a magical, fun-filled Christmas. However with the Christmas season drawing swiftly to a close and the new year growing closer, I thought it appropriate that my next haul post should focus on some of the gifts I was fortunate enough to receive from my wonderful friends and family.

Candles: All of these candles were from Penneys/Primark I believe and are a great example of just how cute their range is getting. I have already used some of them as made obvious by the picture haha but I couldn’t resist. They smell so good!

Macbook Pro: You cannot even imagine the excitement and gratefulness I feel even now while typing this post that I have my very own Macbook Pro.  While my Dad mainly bought it for me as a present for doing well in university, I am sure it will be used for non-educational purposes also. *cough* FaceTime *cough*

Avatar The Last Airbender The Rift: When I was younger “Avatar the Last Airbender” was definitely a family favourite in my household and I still to this day hold the series in a special place in my heart. I received the first 2 library editions of this series last Christmas (each containing 3 comics in one book with a hardback cover) and I loved them so much! They are honestly such a great read for anyone who is interested in the series like I am as it carries on the story following Aang & friends, letting us know what happens to them after the tv series ended. Here’s a pic of me all snuggled up with fluffy pjs and socks reading it while drinking coffee from my super cute penguin mug.

IMG_1995

Knitted Dog Teddy: While this looks like nothing much, in comparison to my other store-bought presents I am really loving this teddy knitted for my specially by my aunt. The details she went into when creating this christmas gift are amazing, having infused the wool and stuffing with a cinnamon scent and knitting a little hat and scarf for him. It is clear she put a lot of thought and work into this gift and I love it so much.

Harry Potter Colouring Book: As a huge fan of both Harry Potter and colouring, this gift was perfect for me (Thanks Mom!). I can honestly see why colouring for adults is such a hit! What they say is true – it is really relaxing and peaceful for the mind. Seriously, try it!

Anyway, I hope you have enjoyed my second little “christmassy” haul. Thank you for reading ❤

P.S. since reaching 70 followers I was thinking of maybe hosting a little giveaway once I reach 100 or 150 as a thank you, what do you guys think? Let me know in the comments below.

What Made Me Smile Week 3

SUNDAY: Spent the day relaxing with one of my bestest friends for the first time in months.

MONDAY: Met Jem in town & got all my Christmas shopping for my Mom done today at last!

TUESDAY: I went to see the new Star Wars movie which I loved (BB-8 was definitely my favourite) and then went out for a few Christmas drinks with my friends. I had a little too much to drink but they took care of me which makes me smile.

WEDNESDAY: 6am Christmas tesco trip with my mom with a slight hangover? I think so. Also Jem came over = doctor who, lots of food , cuddles & smiles of course.

THURSDAY: It’s Christmas Eve, which equals LOTS of quality time with the family.

FRIDAY: IT’S CHRISTMAS DAY! 3:30 am start with my bros? I personally don’t think there’s a better morning for it. My mom was delighted with the presents I bought her (especially the coffee machine) so I’m happy that she’s happy.

SATURDAY: With Christmas day over for another year we are spending the whole day relaxing by the fire in our pjs and will watch movies later this evening (if the electricity is back). Since the electricity went for a while my brothers and I took out our new colouring books and coloured together. This is definitely my favourite time of the year.

Another day, another post of what made me smile this week. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmassy week too. Let me know what made you smile this week, big or small, it all counts. A big thank you to all of my followers who read my posts and leave feedback and lovely comments. You guys are amazing and make me smile all the time.
